Secular Christian

Writer's picture: James RowellJames Rowell

What makes a person a Secular Christian?  Basically, someone who is attached to Christian values and ideas, but not so adamantly like the Fundamentalist.  You say you are religious, but not dogmatic.  That is a Secular Christian; someone used to balancing views and perspectives.  Five beliefs may make you a Secular Christian, and they are:

1.     The Bible is inspired and meaningful, but not the infallible word of God.

2.     Christian morality is good, but non-Christians can be moral too.

3.     You don’t belong to a church but feel happier outside church walls.

4.     Non-Christians don’t bother you.  You aren’t out to convert them.

5.     You believe in Evolution.  The Adam and Eve story is “poetic myth.”

More about these five points can, and should be explained, but at minimum they describe if you are Secular Christian; Christians who value their religion but balance them with other important perspectives of this-worldly life.
